The fertility nurse calls to tell you your pregnancy results are negative. SO WHY IN THE WORLD DOES SHE SOUND SO CHEERFUL?

“Hello, it’s Nurse Ovary calling. Happily, I’m calling to let you know that we have the FANTASTIC results of your latest pregnancy test!! It was negative.” You have been waiting two long excruciating weeks to find out the results of your cycle. And then the clinic calls. Whether she leaves you a phone message or you have the ‘joy’ of talking to her directly, you always try to decode the sound of her voice. Does she sound happy? Is her voice sad? Her voice sounds more perky than usual. It must be good news! Typically, the fertility nurse sounds quite happy and you might even make small chat before she gives you the devastating news. You may even think she’s kidding about your negative result because no human being can sound that cheerful without being truly evil. Hey Nurse, it would be a lot nicer if you just started the conversation in tears!

They should really hire this nurse out to deliver all other forms of horrible news.

“I’m so incredibly pleased you picked up the phone today! It’s fantastic I got a hold of you. You’re uncle is in the hospital.”

“It’s great to hear your voice today. Looks like she only has a few hours to live.”

“Glad I could catch you because have I got news! Your cat didn’t make it.

And you can only imagine how Mrs. Cheerful Negative Nurse will deliver your positive pregnancy news one day too.

I was sick last fall and I went to a walk-in clinic. I made the doc aware that I track my BBT and that I’m off Birth Control. Unfortunately he obviously didn’t take the hint that I’m TRYING to get pregnant. He made me pee in a cup although I told him that I knew for sure I wasn’t pregnant. Then when he read the results he tried to make a JOKE saying that it was positive when it actually was negative. I did NOT find it funny.

just in addition to my above comment… that doc was lucky that I was sick and uninterested in biting his head off for the joke. unlike right now when I’m on clomid and suffering from severe mood swings that would likely send me into a furious rage at such an insensitive joke….

At my RE’s there are two nurses who seem to “get it” and one who is always perky about it all. Blech. And, for the pp’s a***** of a doctor! OMG!!!

LOL…although, my RN is always right there down in the dumps with me. She’ll start off as though it’s great and then sharp dip down to “it’s not good.”

    I hate those calls.

I was at a military hospital they were never cheerful….even when I finally got pregnant after 4yrs TTC.

The first time I went to an OB/GYN clinic to inquire about my fertility problem, the nurse at the registration counter thought I was there for a pre-natal check-up and asked me cheerfully “Did you already test positive for pregnancy at home?” I am never good with come-backs which left me speechless staring at her cute insensitive face.

I called my RE Thursday bc i had started and needed to get set up for our next round. He wasn’t available and was supposed to call me Friday– which he didn’t. NOW it is too late to start a round of meds for this month and we have to sit out a month before we can try again. This is so frustrating.

My nurse actually cries some cycles when she tells me and I can always tell the answer by her voice.
