May 10

For anyone dealing with infertility, Mother’s Day can be a difficult time. Perhaps it would be just a bit easier if we could re-name the holiday to something that didn’t remind us of moms and babies. Here are some suggestions for re-naming Mother’s Day:

  • Women who are not on Clomid Day
  • International working ovaries Day
  • Bratty toddlers and their Mother’s Day
  • Her loins really procreated Day
  • Please don’t post your Mother’s Day photos on Facebook Day
  • A vaginal and brunch celebration Day
  • Sperm and egg conceived Day
  • She ovulated Day
  • Happy pre and post-menopausal Day
  • Overpriced chocolates and flowers Day
  • You’re not my real Mother Day

…or how about Mother’s and Mother’s-in-Waiting Day.

This Mother’s Day, take the time to celebrate your own mother (unless she is a crazy alcoholic, been a guest on the Jerry Springer show or gave you a real stupid first name like Cinnamon, Ce$ha or Jennnifer with three n’s). Don’t let infertility ruin any more special moments and maybe just for the day, choose to celebrate life, rather than avoid it.  “You are a mother. You just haven’t met your child yet.”

No, I’m not, friend. But, I did buy roses for my mother. She’s too far away to have brunch with, so I guess I have to meet someone who doesn’t have a child in the next two days so I don’t spend the day alone.

    Happy “your-parents-had-sex-X-many-years-ago”

I feel the same way about Father’s Day… sorry I mean “Well done you are not firing blanks Day”

My other SIL announced her pregnancy via text to my DH. Yeah, I’m going to be an aunt for the freaking 5th time. I’m tired of being an aunt, I want to be a mother!! Just got done dealing with the other SIL who was pregnant all of 2011. And of course tomorrow is the worst holiday ever. Screw National Flaunt Your Fertility day!

What’s even more awesome than today being Mother’s Day is yesterday was my sister’s baby shower, which I could not bring myself to go to, even though my sister is awesome. Thanks for ruining otherwise happy occasions, infertility!

Thank you for this. I’m getting ready to head to church solo (my husband has to work this morning) and I’m dreading what I will be walking into and thinking of clever replies if anyone wishes me a happy Mother’s Day (“I’m infertile. Thanks for the reminder” comes to mind). Thanks for giving me a laugh and courage to go out the door this morning.

It was so difficult having to read to facebook about everyone wishing ‘all the mothers’ a wonderful day, but just had to write my own to remind everyone that there are those struggling to be moms…This is a beautiful blog…Keep it up, we have somewhere we can laugh and cry at the same time…

Awww, love it!!! I especially love the “You just haven’t met your child yet” comment. You’re awesome!

I don’t think most of these take into account adoptions and stepkids, and it seems rather unfair since those people are included in mother’s day (aren’t they?)

How about, “Adult Female Sharing Bathroom with Non-Adults’ Day”
    or
    “Happy Household Budgeting Complications Day”

maybe I should stick with “Bratty children’s Female Parent’s Day”
